25,000 Cubic Metres of Debris to Be Cleared Before Train Movement in Hill Section; Disruptions Till June 27
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is working on a war footing to restore rail connectivity in the Lumding–Badarpur Hill section after a massive landslide disrupted services. The landslide, triggered by relentless rainfall, damaged about 100 metres of track near a slope failure just 15 metres from the railway line.
A high-level meeting on June 24, attended by the Chief Secretary of Assam, the NFR General Manager, and NHAI officials, finalised a joint action plan for urgent restoration. Over 25 heavy machines and approximately 200 labourers have been deployed at the site, under constant monitoring by senior railway officials, including the DRM of Lumding Division, the CPRO of NF Railway informed on Wednesday (June 25).
The ongoing challenge lies in stabilising the slope amid continued rain and loose soil movement. Authorities must remove over 25,000 cubic metres of debris and muck to clear the track and implement protection measures to ensure long-term safety.
Due to the disruption, several trains have been cancelled or partially cancelled. These include:
