3-Year-Old Lured With Chocolate, Allegedly Raped In Udharbond Tea Garden; Accused Detained
A 3-year-4-month-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in the Kumbha Tea Garden area, Udharbond, in Cachar district. The accused, identified as Bijon Tanti, has been detained for interrogation following a complaint lodged by the child’s father.
According to the FIR filed at Udharbond Police Station, the inhuman incident allegedly took place around 5 PM on March 4 inside the tea garden area. The complainant father stated that when he was not at home, the accused allegedly came to their house and lured the minor with the promise of buying her chocolate from a nearby shop.
The accused allegedly took the child to his house and later to a secluded area within the tea garden where he reportedly sexually assaulted her. The FIR further alleged that the accused gagged the child with her clothes during the assault before leaving her at the spot and fleeing.
On the other side, when the parents realised that their daughter was missing, they began searching for her frantically. Both parents had gone out looking for the child in the surrounding areas. By around 7 PM, they saw their daughter walking out of a section of the tea garden.
According to the complaint, the child later managed to return while crying and eventually spotted her parents. When her father picked her up, he reportedly noticed that her clothes were wet. Upon being asked what had happened, the child allegedly told her father about the incident.
Following the complaint lodged on Thursday, Cachar Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) and apprehended the accused on Friday (March 6).
Police told Barak Bulletin that they are interrogating the accused and continuing the investigation into the matter.
