
60-Year-Old Man Shot Dead in Suspected Land Dispute in Jirighat, 4 Arrested
A long-running land dispute in Kadamtilla village of Jirighat in Cachar allegedly turned violent on Monday morning (April 20), leaving a 60-year-old man dead. The deceased has been identified as Luku Miya of Baghkhal, under the jurisdiction of Jirighat Police Station.
According to police sources, a group of armed men allegedly arrived at Luku Miya’s residence on Monday morning, called him outside, and took him away from the house. He was then allegedly shot and later assaulted with sticks, resulting in his death. Police said the murder is suspected to be linked to a land dispute that had been ongoing for a long time.
Cachar Police said the case was cracked within 12 hours, leading to the arrest of four main accused persons and the recovery of arms and ammunition.
The arrested persons have been identified as Saharul Haque Laskar (27), Sajul Islam Laskar (26), Babul Haque Choudhury (34) of Jirighat area, and Suzan Aktar Laskar (18) of Sonabarighat.
During the operation, police recovered two country-made rifles, one pistol, and several rounds of ammunition that were used to threaten and later kill Luku Miya.
The body of Luku Miya was recovered and sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said further investigation is underway, and efforts are on to arrest other co-accused persons.
