5th Foundation Day of 720 Taekwondo Academy to Feature Statewide Championship in Silchar on July 19

Silchar is all set to witness a high-octane martial arts spectacle as the 5th Foundation Day of the 720 Taekwondo and Fitness Academy will be celebrated with a grand “Foundation Cup Invitational Inter Club Taekwondo Championship” on July 19, 2025 (Saturday), at Ashirwad Bhawan near DSA ground.

Addressing the media on Friday, Pradeep Nath, President of the Organising Committee, informed that the event will kick off at 9:30 AM and will see participation from nearly 200 taekwondo athletes from across Assam, including clubs from Sribhumi, Hailakandi, Cachar, and Guwahati.

He added that the Foundation Cup will be graced by several prominent dignitaries. Krishnendu Paul, Cabinet Minister, will attend as the Chief Guest, alongside Minister Kaushik Rai. MPs Parimal Suklabaidya (Lok Sabha) and Kanad Purkayastha (Rajya Sabha) will be present as Guests of Honour, among other invited representatives.

Bashista Das, General Secretary of the Organising Committee, said the last date for registration is July 13 (Sunday), with a fee of Rs. 1000 per event. The competition is open to all clubs or individuals, and participants will range from 4 to 50 years of age.

The championship will feature various categories, including Kyorugi, Poomsae (individual and group), Speed Kick, and Self Defence Act for beginners. The highlight of the day will be the Tag Team 4-vs-4 match, which is expected to be a crowd-puller.

“All officials will be national-level referees, and 25 of them will be coming from different districts of Assam,” Das said. He also mentioned that 20 clubs have confirmed their participation so far. Master Biswajit Ghosh from Sribhumi will serve as the Chief Kyorugi Technical Advisor, and Master Bibhabasu Chakraborty from Hailakandi will serve as the Chief Poomsae Technical Advisor.

Apart from the competitions, athletes from Barak Valley who have won medals at national, international, and state-level championships will be felicitated during the event. The prize distribution ceremony will take place the same evening, with trophies and medals awarded in various categories, including Best Team, Best Fighter (Male/Female), Best Male Athlete, among others.
