Katigorah Forgery Racket: Sub-Registrar Files FIR Against Youth for Issuing Fake Land Deeds
Katigorah has been rocked by the exposure of an alleged forgery racket involving fake Non-Encumbrance Certificates (NEC) and land deeds. The Office of the Sub-Registrar and Marriage Officer of Katigorah area of Cachar, Jasim Uddin Ahmed, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Katigorah Police Station against one Md Khaled Ahmed Barbhuiya of Khelma Part-VI, Gumrah, accusing him of forging official seals and signatures of both the Sub-Registrar’s office and the Katigorah Revenue Circle Office.
According to the FIR, Khaled, the son of Abdul Matin Barbhuiya, was falsely posing as a deed writer (mohori) and issuing fake NECs and land deeds under duplicate seals and fraudulent signatures.
The Sub-Registrar stated that the scam came to light when forged documents were submitted for approval, bearing duplicate official stamps and a fake registration number with no record in the office.
“The accused person is issuing fake NECs and fake deeds, misguiding the general public of Katigorah under forged seals and signatures of my office. Such activities are intolerable as they breach public trust and damage the goodwill of the government,” the FIR reads.
The Sub-Registrar also highlighted the possibility of recovering more objectionable materials from Khaled’s possession upon a thorough search of his residence.
“This land deed and fake documents can be used to get bank loans. While the bank must send us an intimation before issuing any loans, if a loan is sanctioned with fake documents, the bank can be liable. People might be getting loans sanctioned with these fake papers. I will urge the bank to check whether the land documents issued are original and the only way to do so is through an intimation letter”, further added the sub-registrar as a major concern.
Police have registered the case based on the FIR, and an investigation has been launched to uncover the full extent of the racket and identify potential victims of the fraud. Authorities are also investigating whether additional individuals are connected to the operation.
