Cachar Police Seize Cannabis Worth Rs. 60 Lakh, Two from Mizoram Arrested

In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Cachar Police on Wednesday apprehended two individuals for allegedly transporting a large quantity of cannabis worth an estimated Rs. 60 lakh in the black market. The arrest was made during a special naka checking operation on the Silchar–Aizawl road at Dholai on August 6.

According to police sources, a vehicle bearing registration number MZ 01 W/1993 was intercepted during the operation. Upon inspection, officers discovered 50 plastic bags containing cannabis hidden inside specially designed secret chambers within the vehicle. The contraband was seized on the spot, and preliminary testing with a drug detection kit confirmed the substance as marijuana.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Lal Lawmzuala (30), son of Rothargliana Phuneha, a resident of Aizawl, Mizoram, and Lalnunpuii (31), daughter of Lalhluna from Saihapui, Kolashib district, Mizoram. Both suspects were taken into custody for further interrogation to uncover the supply chain and possible links to larger drug syndicates operating across state borders.

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are underway to trace the origin and intended destination of the seized consignment.

This operation adds to a series of recent successful busts by Cachar Police, underscoring the growing menace of drug trafficking in the Northeast and the law enforcement agencies’ determination to combat it.
