Cachar Police Seize Rs. 90 Crore Worth Yaba Tablets, Two From Manipur Held
Acting on credible intelligence, Cachar Police conducted a special operation at Dholakhal near the Assam–Mizoram border on September 23 late evening and busted a major drug trafficking attempt.
Police intercepted a Bolero pick-up truck (Reg. No. AS 01PC/8976) in front of the Dholakhal Border Out Post under Dholai Police Station and apprehended two persons identified as Samuel Lhungdim (27), son of Late Zampao Lhungdim of Lamka, Churachandpur, Manipur, and Andy Kuki (27), son of Khaipal Kuki of Lamka, Churachandpur, Manipur.
Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 3,00,000 suspected Yaba tablets hidden inside specially designed secret chambers of the truck’s body. The narcotics were packed in 30 black polythene-wrapped packets. The seized consignment is estimated to be worth over Rs. 90 crore in the black market. A drug detection kit confirmed the presence of methamphetamine.
The contraband was seized in the presence of independent witnesses, and the vehicle used in the trafficking was also confiscated. Preliminary investigation suggests that the drugs were transported from Churachandpur, Manipur, and were destined for further distribution in the district.
Speaking on the operation, Cachar SSP Numal Mahatta said, “Based on special intel, we held this operation in the Assam-Mizoram border’s Dholakhal area and seized 3 lakh Yaba tablets from a Bolero pick-up van. The narcotics were concealed inside specially made chambers and tested positive for methamphetamine. The black market value of the seized consignment is more than Rs. 90 crore. The arrested individuals are from Manipur, and further investigation is on.”
Police have registered a case, and a further probe is underway to trace the network behind the consignment.
