Lakhipur Teacher Detained for Allegedly Molesting Class 5 Student While Playing Hide and Seek

A disturbing incident has been reported from Lakhipur in Cachar, where an assistant teacher of a primary school has been detained for allegedly molesting a Class 5 student. According to the complaint, Samim Ahmed Choudhury, an assistant teacher at a school under the Lakhipur Education Block, had been allegedly harassing the minor for the past few days. The matter came to light on Tuesday (November 18) after the girl returned home crying and narrated the incident to her parents.

Speaking to reporters, the SMC President said, “Last Saturday, the assistant teacher touched a Class 5 girl inappropriately. She went home crying but hesitated to speak. Taking advantage of no other teachers being present, he touched her inappropriately.”

The situation reportedly worsened on Tuesday (November 19). With only three students left in school, the teacher allegedly asked them to play hide-and-seek. While the victim was blindfolded, he allegedly molested her again.

When the girl disclosed Tuesday’s incident to her mother, the latter decided that “enough was enough” and rushed to the SMC President’s residence to report the teacher. According to an SMC member, the accused allegedly followed the mother on his motorcycle, repeatedly urging her to “drop the matter.” He even arrived at the SMC President’s home, where he denied the allegations, claiming, “I didn’t do anything of that sort; I only pull the students towards me affectionately.”

On Wednesday (November 19), SMC members and local representatives confronted the teacher at the school. He initially denied the allegations but later said, “Forgive me if I did anything wrong,” an SMC member claimed. As tension escalated and locals allegedly confronted him physically, the teacher asked to be handed over to the police.

Lakhipur Police Station was informed immediately. Police reached the school, detained Choudhury, and took him to the station. The victim’s parents later filed a written complaint. Police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation has begun.

One important question here is why most teachers had left the school premises before the official closing time, leaving students unsupervised.

The rising cases of molestation by educators have raised concerns. In August this year, a tutor in Udharbond was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a minor student.

Lakhipur Police is probing the case, and further action will follow based on the evidence collected.
