Sonai: Gas Cylinder Explosion Intensifies Fire, Destruction of over Rs 5 Lakh
A devastating fire at Ranggirghat in Sonai’s Ward Number 8 reduced a residential house to ashes on Thursday evening (December 4), leaving the affected family without shelter but causing no injuries.
According to local reports, the house belonging to Sams Uddin Laskar was completely destroyed while he and his family members were away. On receiving information about the incident, Sams Uddin rushed back home only to find the structure engulfed in flames. Although the house had no electricity connection, a gas cylinder inside reportedly exploded after the fire started, worsening the situation.
Police from Sonai Police Station, led by Officer in Charge Robin Tumuong, arrived at the spot along with the fire service team and attempted to bring the blaze under control. Ward Commissioner Nebul Islam Laskar was also present during the incident. Despite their efforts, the intensity of the fire was so high that everything inside the house was burnt within moments.
Sams Uddin told reporters that property worth more than five lakh rupees had been destroyed. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Sams Uddin said “I was on my way to Lakhipur but had to turn back because of the incident.” He added that he felt fortunate no one was harmed, although he was shocked to see the entire house burnt despite the fact that there was no electricity supply. He recalled being at the location earlier that evening and expressed confusion over how the fire could have started.
