Dholai Man Found Dead in Paddy Field; Family Alleges Murder

The deadbody of a man was found in a paddy field at Bongram area under Bhaga Bazar GP in the Dholai Assembly constituency on Thursday morning (February 12), creating tension in the area. Police have started an investigation, while the family has alleged that it could be a planned murder.

The deceased has been identified as Mojibur Rahman, a resident of Bongram in Bhaga Bazar and a tailor by profession. According to local sources, a villager who had gone to graze cattle in the morning spotted the body lying in the middle of a paddy field and informed others. Soon, a large number of people gathered at the spot.

On receiving information, Dholai Police reached the scene, recovered the body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The exact cause of death is yet to be known.

Family members said Mojibur Rahman had been missing since Wednesday evening. His wife told reporters, “ I told him not to go yet he went out. At around 9 pm, I asked my son to call his father. He tried for more than an hour, but the phone kept ringing and no one answered. Later, the phone was switched off. We searched for him many times but could not find him anywhere.”

The family has alleged that the death was a planned murder and demanded a fair investigation and immediate arrest of those responsible. A local Village Defence Party member said they began searching after receiving information and later found the body in the field.

Some residents suspect there may be a link to illegal drugs, though police have not confirmed any such angle. Officials said all possible aspects are being examined and further investigation is underway.
