Amit Shah To Reach Cachar Tonight; VVP Phase II Launch From Natanpur Tomorrow
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Cachar district on February 19 for a two-day visit, during which he will launch the second phase of the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP-II) from Natanpur in Katigorah on February 20.
The Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) is a Government of India initiative aimed at the comprehensive development of remote and border villages, especially those located along India’s international boundaries. The programme focuses on improving road connectivity, housing, electricity, telecom networks, health, education, livelihood opportunities and tourism to ensure that border residents do not migrate due to a lack of basic facilities.
Phase II of the programme expands coverage to additional strategically important villages, with an emphasis on strengthening infrastructure and enhancing security-linked development in frontier areas like those along the Indo-Bangla border in Cachar.
According to the official tour programme, Shah will depart from New Delhi on the evening of February 19 and arrive at Silchar Airport at 8:55 PM. From there, he will proceed to the CRPF Guest House in Dayapur, Silchar, where he will halt for the night.
On February 20, the Union Home Minister will leave the CRPF Guest House in the morning and travel to Silchar’s Police Parade Ground helipad before flying to Natanpur helipad by BSF helicopter. He is scheduled to arrive at the Border Outpost (BOP), Natanpur, at 11:05 AM.
Between 11:05 AM and 11:25 AM, Shah will inspect the Border Outpost and take part in a plantation programme. He will then proceed to the VVP programme venue at Natanpur, where the inauguration of Vibrant Villages Programme Phase II will be held from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
After the event, he will return to Silchar Airport by helicopter and depart at 1:30 PM for his next events in Tripura.
The visit comes amid heightened security arrangements in Cachar, with the district administration declaring a temporary no-fly zone for drones during the VVIP movement.
