With Assembly elections approaching, the Cachar district administration has intensified surveillance across all seven constituencies to ensure free and fair polls.

Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams have been deployed across the district, conducting strict vehicle checks and monitoring suspicious locations to curb unlawful activities.

During routine inspections on key roads, authorities seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs. 13,25,900. In addition, liquor worth Rs. 9,45,000 was confiscated, allegedly aimed at influencing voters.

The crackdown also exposed illegal narcotics movement. Officials recovered 60.3 grams of heroin, estimated at around Rs. 12 lakh in the illegal market, along with 3.027 grams of ganja.

Authorities have also enforced strict compliance with the Model Code of Conduct. Campaign materials such as banners, flags, and posters displayed on public and private properties have been removed, and political slogans on public infrastructure erased, with action initiated against violators.

Officials stated that surveillance teams are working round the clock, maintaining strict vigilance to prevent misuse of money and substances, ensuring adherence to election norms.
