
BJP Releases ‘Sankalp Patra’ For Assam Polls; UCC, AIIMS Centre In Sribhumi, Flood-Free State Promised
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday unveiled the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (Bharatiya Janata Party) “Sankalp Patra” (manifesto) for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 in Guwahati, outlining the party’s vision for a “Surakshita Asom, Bikashita Asom”. In the presence of Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, former CM and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonwal, BJP’s state head Dilip Saikia, the manifesto was unveiled with 31 sankalpas or assurances.
The manifesto highlights the BJP’s focus on development, governance, and welfare, positioning Assam as “India’s Eastern Gateway” and a key driver in the country’s growth trajectory. It emphasises infrastructure expansion, economic growth, and social welfare as central pillars of its agenda.
In his message included in the document, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Assam has transitioned “from instability to peace” over the past decade, with improvements in governance, connectivity, healthcare, and employment. The document claims that the state’s GSDP has nearly tripled and per capita income has more than doubled during this period.
The Sankalp Patra also outlines commitments such as protecting indigenous identity, boosting infrastructure to strengthen Assam’s role as a gateway to the Northeast, empowering women, youth, and farmers, and ensuring improved healthcare and governance.
Additionally, the manifesto showcases achievements of the BJP-led government, including the expansion of roads and bridges, an increased number of colleges and medical institutions, welfare schemes like Orunodoi, and employment generation initiatives.
The BJP’s Sankalp Patra for the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 promises a mix of identity protection, infrastructure expansion and welfare measures, with key highlights including freeing land from encroachment and expelling illegal immigrants, pushing for Uniform Civil Code and stricter laws, investing Rs. 5 lakh crore to transform Assam into India’s Eastern Gateway, launching a flood-free “Badh Mukt Assam” mission, creating 2 lakh government jobs and supporting 10 lakh youth entrepreneurs, ensuring free education from KG to PG and expanding women-centric schemes like Orunodoi, boosting farmers’ income and modernising agriculture, providing housing for all and welfare for tea tribes and weavers, aiming to grow the economy to $300 billion, investing Rs. 50,000 crore in healthcare, promoting tourism and sports, implementing peace accords, strengthening governance with the 8th Pay Commission, and focusing on regional development including making Dibrugarh the second capital and accelerating projects in Barak Valley.
For Barak Valley, the major announcements mentioned are— full-fledged functioning of the Assam Secretariat in Silchar to boost the region’s administrative importance, setting up a satellite centre of AIIMS in Sribhumi to strengthen healthcare access, and expediting the Greenfield Airport project at Doloo in Cachar to improve connectivity. Additionally, major infrastructure projects like the Siliguri–Shillong–Silchar Expressway and proposed Vande Bharat routes via Silchar aim to enhance transport links, while plans for an Aerohub near Doloo, flood control under the Badh Mukt Assam mission, and broader welfare, housing and employment schemes are expected to benefit the entire Barak Valley region.
The party described the manifesto as a reflection of “people’s aspirations and the BJP’s commitment,” shaped through public participation ahead of the upcoming elections.
