Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of Lakhipur Police and 38 Assam Rifles conducted a raid in the Palorbond area under Lakhipur Police Station of Cachar district and recovered around 30,000 Yaba tablets. A Mahindra Bolero (MZ02C3197), allegedly used for trafficking, was also seized.
The accused, identified as Imam Uddin Laskar and Bakul Hossain Laskar from the Dholai constituency, are currently in police custody. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
This comes just days after a press release issued by DIPR Cachar on March 29 highlighted intensified enforcement actions in the district ahead of the polls. During routine checks, authorities seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs. 13,25,900 and liquor worth Rs. 9,45,000, allegedly intended to influence voters. The crackdown also led to the recovery of 60.3 grams of heroin, estimated at around Rs. 12 lakh in the illegal market, along with 3.027 grams of ganja.
With multiple seizures of cash, liquor, and narcotics within a short span, authorities have significantly tightened surveillance in Cachar to curb illegal activities and ensure free and fair elections.
