Cachar HSLC Results 2026: 22 Schools Record Zero Pass; Govt Boys’ School Sees Just 1 Success
Cachar has ranked last among Assam’s 33 districts in the HSLC Examination 2026 results, that was declared on Friday (April 10), with the district recording a pass percentage of 49.13%, triggering concern across the academic community.
According to official data, 25,961 candidates from 332 schools appeared for the examination this year, out of which only 12,755 students passed, meaning more than half of the candidates failed to clear the exam.
A deeper analysis of the results reveals a worrying trend. 22 schools in the district recorded zero pass percentage, where not a single student cleared the examination. Among these, 6 are provincialised schools, namely Shivpur High School, Fulbari Public High School, Arunachal Girls’ High School, Ujan Tarapur High School, Gharbaran Amar Chand Premdamoyi High School and Fulbari High School.
In these schools, dozens of students appeared, including 95 from Shivpur High School and 51 from Ujan Tarapur High School, but none managed to pass.
The remaining zero-result institutions include a mix of recognised and venture schools such as Ramlochan Memorial High School, Town Girls’ High School, and several others.
Apart from this, 10 schools recorded pass percentages below 10%, of which 8 are government or provincialised institutions. These include Bagpur Higher Secondary School, Jarma Singh High School, Jorkhal Tribal High School, Brajhari Musafir High School, PM Shri Nehru Higher Secondary School (Pailapool), JC Girls’ High School and Kaliprasad Bindubasini Girls’ High School.
Particularly alarming is the performance of Silchar’s historic Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, where only 1 out of 29 students passed, that too in third division, resulting in a pass percentage of just 3.45%.
Additionally, 28 schools in the district recorded pass percentages below 20%, further highlighting the scale of the academic decline.
However, there is a silver lining. 40 schools in Cachar achieved 100% pass results, including government and provincialised institutions such as Shyamacharan Dev Vidyapith, Surya Kumar High School, Kalar Hawor Tribal High School, Ibemhal High School, Borkhola Manipuri High School, Residential Boys’ School, Kameshwar High School and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Residential School.
The reason behind this performance, educationists believe, is the number of teaching posts lying vacant at provincialised schools. With Cachar slipping to the bottom of the state rankings, educationists believe urgent corrective measures will be necessary to prevent further decline in academic performance in the coming years.
