A 53-year-old teacher from Silchar lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident near the ISBT area on Wednesday morning while he was travelling to Sribhumi for work. The deceased has been identified as Bireshwar Bhattacharjee, a resident of Public School Road in Silchar. He worked as a teacher at Maharshi Vidya Mandir in Sribhumi. The incident has left residents of the locality shocked, especially because of the brutal nature of the accident and the fact that the vehicle involved is still unidentified.
According to sources, Bireshwar Bhattacharjee had left his home early in the morning to travel to Sribhumi as part of his daily routine. At around 6:30 am, he reportedly took a vehicle from Silchar and reached the ISBT area, from where he was preparing to board another vehicle towards Sribhumi. Before he could continue his journey, an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed into him at high speed and fled the location immediately after the collision, turning the incident into a suspected hit-and-run case.
Eyewitnesses and local residents described the accident as extremely severe and disturbing. Though the exact vehicle involved has not yet been identified, several locals suspect that it may have been a large truck because of the extent of the injuries caused during tÿhe collision. Sources stated that the impact was so intense that the victim’s upper body and face were severely crushed. The condition of the body reportedly left many people at the scene horrified, with residents describing the incident as one of the most brutal road accidents witnessed in the area in recent times.
After receiving information about the accident, police personnel arrived at the scene and carried out the necessary procedures. The body was recovered from the spot and later sent for post-mortem examination. Following the completion of the formalities, the body was handed over to the family members. Police have now launched an investigation into the incident and are actively trying to trace the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run case.
The brutal nature of the accident has once again raised serious concerns regarding road safety and traffic management in Silchar, particularly in busy transit zones such as the ISBT area where both heavy and passenger vehicles frequently operate. The severity of the collision, along with suspicions that a heavy vehicle may have been involved, has highlighted the dangers of overspeeding and negligent driving on public roads. The incident also underlines the importance of maintaining speed limits, following lane discipline and ensuring that drivers operate vehicles responsibly, especially in areas with regular commuter movement during the early morning hours.
