Manipur to Cachar: Rs 3 Crore Drug Consignment Busted

Two drug traffickers from Manipur were arrested after a joint operation by the police and Assam Rifles led to the seizure of a large quantity of yaba tablets and heroin from the Barak River in Lakhipur area of Cachar district.

According to reports, the operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs regarding the transportation of drugs through the river route from neighbouring Manipur. During the operation in the Barak River, the joint team intercepted a mechanised boat that had reportedly arrived from Manipur.

Officials recovered 10,000 yaba tablets and 21 grams of heroin from the boat. The two persons arrested in connection with the case are residents of Pherzawl district in Manipur.

Addressing the media, police shared details of the operation and revealed that the estimated black market value of the seized narcotics is more than Rs 3 crore.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.
