From Dumping Ground to Clean Zone: NC College Area Cleared After ABVP Appeal

Garbage accumulated near Nabinchandra College (NC College) in Badarpur has been cleared by the Badarpur Municipal Board after the local unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) raised concerns over the issue through a memorandum submitted to civic authorities.

According to the student organisation, a large quantity of garbage had remained dumped near the college premises for a considerable period, turning the area into an unofficial dumping site and causing inconvenience to students, pedestrians and local residents.

In its memorandum submitted to the Executive Officer of the Badarpur Municipal Board on May 25, ABVP expressed concerns over cleanliness, public health and student safety. The organisation alleged that the condition of the area often forced students to use the busy main road due to difficulties in accessing the footpath near the dumping site.

In a video statement, representatives of the ABVP Badarpur Unit said they had approached the Chairperson and Executive Officer of the municipal board seeking immediate intervention. They further stated that they later followed up with the authorities regarding the status of the cleaning work.

According to the representatives, municipal authorities informed them that the garbage removal and cleaning work would be completed within a short period. The organisation subsequently claimed that the waste was cleared and the surrounding area cleaned.

ABVP representatives thanked the Chairperson and Executive Officer of the Badarpur Municipal Board for responding to the issue and taking action. They also said the organisation would continue raising matters affecting students and the local community whenever necessary.

The Badarpur Municipal Board’s response to the claims made by ABVP could not be independently verified at the time of publication.
