Traffic Check Turns Chaotic as Woman Falls From Scooter, Crowd Erupts in Protest
A tense situation unfolded at Devdoot Point in Silchar on Thursday (June 11) after a woman fell from her scooter during a traffic checking operation, triggering protests by members of the public and prompting intervention by Cachar District Commissioner Ayush Garg.
The incident occurred at one of the city’s busiest junctions. According to allegations, a traffic police official made contact with the woman’s scooter while attempting to stop her for an alleged traffic rule violation. The woman lost balance and fell onto the road, leading to anger among onlookers.
Speaking to the media at the scene, the woman acknowledged that she had made a mistake by violating a traffic rule. However, she criticised the manner in which the traffic personnel handled the situation, alleging that the officer’s actions caused her to fall and sustain injuries.
Videos from the scene showed a large crowd gathering shortly after the incident. Several people were seen questioning the conduct of the traffic police official and expressing support for the woman. The woman also claimed that the official later left the location.
As tensions rose, District Commissioner Ayush Garg arrived at the spot and interacted with members of the public. According to reports from the scene, he assured those gathered that a magisterial inquiry would be conducted into the incident.
Following his intervention, the situation gradually returned to normal and the crowd dispersed. An official statement from the traffic police regarding the allegations was not immediately available. The findings of the proposed inquiry are awaited.
