Jealousy Turns Deadly: Udharbond Miscreants Poison Fishery, Causing Massive Loss of Lakhs

A shocking example of how far some people can go out of jealousy has come to light in Majargram under the Udharbond Assembly constituency. Miscreants allegedly poisoned a fishery, killing around 40 quintals of fish. The fish were reportedly worth about Rs. 8 lakh in the market. The incident has created a major stir across the area.

Three brothers from Udharbond, Bappa Choudhury, Bablu Choudhury and Bapi Choudhury, who run a tent house business, had recently leased a fishery in the Majargram area to start fish farming. Through their hard work, they had achieved success in the venture and, a few months ago, invested around Rs. 8 lakh in fish fingerlings. However, just as the fish had become ready for sale, miscreants allegedly poisoned the pond water, causing almost all the fish to die and float to the surface.

Addressing the media, Bappa Choudhury said he received a call from his staff informing him that someone had poisoned the fishery. He said around 95 percent of the fish had died as a result. He added that the entire Rs. 8 lakh invested in the fishery had been taken as a loan and urged the authorities to identify those responsible and take strict action against them.

The massive loss suffered by the three enterprising young men, who chose the path of self-reliance instead of pursuing jobs, has triggered widespread concern across the area. The affected youths have appealed to Udharbond MLA Rajdeep Goala for intervention and assistance. They have also demanded that those involved be identified and given strict punishment. Police have already launched an investigation into the incident.
