Silchar Congress Rallies to “Free Shri Ram from BJP” Over Ram Temple Fund Row
The Cachar District Congress on Thursday (July 2) alleged that the district administration prevented it from holding a peaceful protest march in Silchar over alleged financial irregularities linked to the Ram Temple. The party accused the administration of curbing democratic rights and claimed that the allegations surrounding the temple funds had hurt the sentiments of Hindus across the country.
The protest was scheduled to begin from the Congress office at Indira Bhavan. However, party leaders alleged that despite seeking prior permission, the administration did not allow the march. They further claimed that a large police contingent was deployed outside the party office and stopped the procession before it could begin, leading to a tense situation as Congress workers raised slogans against the police action.
Addressing the media, Congress leaders said the Ram Temple is not the property of any political party but a symbol of faith for millions of Hindus. They claimed that people from all sections of society had contributed voluntarily towards the construction of the temple and that allegations of financial misappropriation had deeply hurt public faith.
One Congress leader alleged that the BJP had used the name of Lord Ram for political purposes over the years and was now remaining silent over the allegations. He further claimed that the opposition was being prevented from raising the issue and said the party would continue its protest until, in his words, “Shri Ram is freed from the dirty politics of the BJP.”
Former Congress candidate from the Borkhola Assembly constituency, Amit Kalwar, also addressed the media. He alleged that the reported incident had shaken the faith of Hindus across the country, as people had donated to the temple according to their means. Kalwar claimed that the district administration denied permission for the protest and accused it of suppressing dissent. He appealed to people, particularly Hindus, to raise their voices and demand justice over the allegations.
The Congress also called for an impartial investigation into the alleged financial irregularities and demanded strict action against anyone found guilty. Party leaders further urged people to speak up on the issue through democratic means.
