Rs 4 Crore Drug Haul! Cachar Police Arrest Three in Major Crackdown
Cachar Police have seized around 16,000 yaba tablets with an estimated black market value of Rs 3 crore to Rs 4 crore and arrested three alleged drug traffickers during two separate anti-narcotics operations carried out over the past two days.
Addressing the media, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rajat Kumar Pal said the operations were conducted under the jurisdictions of Katigorah Police Station and Silchar Police Station. The seizures were made in separate raids based on specific intelligence inputs.
In the first operation, a team from Katigorah Police Station conducted a raid in the Lathimara area after receiving information about the illegal possession of yaba tablets. During the search, police recovered 6,000 yaba tablets from the possession of Hasan Ahmad. He was arrested and has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In another operation carried out on the night of July 14, a team from Silchar Police Station intercepted two individuals who were allegedly transporting yaba tablets in the Kalibari Char area of Silchar. Police recovered 10,000 yaba tablets from their possession. The accused have been identified as Tamez Uddin Laskar, a resident of Silchar, and Assadul Islam, a resident of Nagaon.
ASP Pal said all three accused have been produced before the court and proceedings under the NDPS Act have been initiated. He added that the police are continuing their investigation to establish both the backward and forward links of the drug network and to identify others involved in the trafficking chain.
The two operations together resulted in the seizure of 16,000 yaba tablets, marking another major success in Cachar Police’s ongoing drive against the illegal drug trade.
