Cachar Congress Celebrates Education Minister’s Exit, Calls for PM Modi to Step Down

The Cachar District Congress on Saturday (July 25) held a victory celebration in Silchar following the resignation of the Union Education Minister, describing it as “a victory of students and a victory of democracy.”

Addressing the media, Congress leaders said the resignation was the result of sustained democratic protests by students across the country. They congratulated the students for their movement and said the younger generation had demonstrated its strength and determination. The leaders also thanked Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi for supporting and encouraging the protesting students.

Former Borkhola MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar said the issue had become one of the biggest controversies involving the education system in recent times. He welcomed the minister’s resignation, thanked Rahul Gandhi for standing with the students and demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Another Congress leader said the Education Minister had accepted moral responsibility by stepping down and congratulated all students who had taken part in what he described as a “revolution”. He claimed the protests had shown that the next generation was capable of bringing about change. The leader also demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and later called for the resignation of the Modi government.

During the programme, Congress leaders alleged that students affected by the question paper leak should receive justice. They also demanded compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with the controversy. The party further alleged that the government bore moral responsibility for the alleged crackdown on protesting students.

The event was attended by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Senior Vice President Sharifuzzaman Laskar, Cachar District Congress President Sajal Acharya, former ministers Ajit Singh and Misbahul Islam Laskar, senior Congress leader Arun Dutta Mazumdar and several other party leaders.

The Cachar District Congress said it would continue to support students and the public in their democratic movements for what it described as legitimate demands. The party maintained that the minister’s resignation reflected the strength of democratic protest, while its demands for the resignations of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister remain political statements made by Congress leaders.
