Cachar Police Seize Heroin Worth Rs 6.5 Crore Near Assam-Mizoram Border, Two Arrested

Cachar Police seized heroin worth an estimated Rs 6.5 crore and arrested two alleged drug traffickers during an anti-drug operation at Lailapur near the Assam-Mizoram border on Saturday night (July 25).

According to police, the operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence under the leadership of Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjib Kumar Saikia. A truck bearing registration number AS 01FC 6513, which was travelling from Mizoram, was intercepted at Lailapur.

During a search of the vehicle, police allegedly recovered 102 soap cases containing heroin from a concealed chamber inside the truck. The total weight of the seized heroin was 1.243 kg. Police estimated the contraband’s black market value at around Rs 6.5 crore.

The two accused have been identified as Sabir Ahmed and Selim Aminul. They were arrested at the spot on charges of involvement in the alleged drug trafficking.

Police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and launched a further investigation into the matter. Authorities are also trying to determine the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
