Four Months, No Chargesheet: Rozy Deb’s Family Still Waiting for Justice After Silchar Crash

Four months after a serious road accident in Silchar’s Ambikapatty left Rozy Deb critically injured, her family has again approached the Cachar, Senior Superintendent of Police seeking faster investigation and filing of the chargesheet.

Rozy Deb, daughter of Dileep Deb, has been undergoing treatment at AIIMS Guwahati. According to her family, she has suffered severe injuries and has lost most of her ability to move. The family is now preparing to take her to Delhi for further treatment, which they estimate could cost around Rs 30 to 40 lakh.

The accident took place on March 28, 2026, in the Ambikapatty area of Silchar. The family later lodged an FIR in connection with the incident.

On Tuesday, family members submitted a fresh memorandum to the district SSP, demanding that the investigation be completed at the earliest, that they be informed about the progress of the case and that the chargesheet be filed without further delay.

An advocate representing Rozy Deb’s family told the media that an FIR was registered and an investigation was carried out by the Investigating Officer (IO). However, the family allegedly has no information about what happened after the investigation or whether any further findings were made.

The advocate alleged that no one from the investigating team has contacted the family to update them about the case. He also claimed that the accused is currently out on bail while Rozy remains hospitalised.

Referring to Section 193(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), the advocate claimed that the chargesheet should have been filed within four months. He questioned why the chargesheet has not yet been submitted and said the family should be informed about the progress of the investigation.

The family said they have approached various people, including politicians and ministers, seeking help but have so far not received the relief they were hoping for.

Speaking to the media, a family member said Tuesday was the second time that they had come seeking action. The family member said a fresh memorandum had been submitted to the SP, although the SP was not present at the time.

“We have still not received justice,” the family member said, adding that the accident occurred on March 28 and the family has been waiting for justice since then.

The family said Rozy had recently completed her MBA and joined a new job before the accident. Her treatment has continued for months, and the family is now preparing to shift her to Delhi for specialised treatment, with the estimated cost expected to be around Rs 30 to 40 lakh.

The family has appealed for a speedy and impartial investigation, appropriate legal action against those responsible and the immediate filing of the chargesheet.

With Rozy still undergoing treatment and the family awaiting clarity on the investigation, questions remain over the status of the case and the reason for the delay in filing the chargesheet.
