20,000 Smuggled ESSE Lights Cigarettes Seized in Lailapur, One Arrested

Lailapur Police Post personnel seized 20,000 ESSE Lights cigarettes during a special naka checking operation in Lailapur on Tuesday, August 11, based on specific information about the transportation and possession of smuggled cigarettes.

The operation was conducted at around 11:25 am. During the checking, police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number ML04B 5885, driven by 29-year-old Vanlalruata, son of Jamphuin, a resident of A/O Saikh, Mizoram.

According to the seizure details, police recovered 100 boxes of ESSE Lights cigarettes from the vehicle. Each box contained 10 smaller packets, with 20 cigarettes in each packet, taking the total quantity to 20,000 cigarettes. The cigarette packets reportedly carried the marking, “Made under authority of KT&G, Korea.”

Police also seized the vehicle, along with its key, and one Vivo mobile phone.

The seizure was carried out in the presence of independent witnesses. After the operation, the arrested person and the seized items were brought to Lailapur Police Post for further legal action.

The matter has been registered under Dholai Police Station Case No. 128/26. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.

The seizure details provided by the police describe the cigarettes as smuggled. The exact legal provisions applied in the case and the final nature of the charges will be determined through the ongoing legal process.
