Cachar Police Seize 8,000 Yaba Tablets and 739 Grams of Suspected Heroin, Woman Arrested

Cachar Police have seized around 8,000 Yaba tablets and 739 grams of suspected heroin during an anti-drug operation at Kashipur Bagan Road under Silchar Sadar Police Station. A woman has been arrested in connection with the seizure, while her husband, identified by police as an alleged drug dealer, is absconding.

Acting on intelligence inputs, a police team conducted a search at the residence of Jahirul Islam Barbhuiya, a local resident. During the operation, police recovered approximately 8,000 Yaba tablets along with 739 grams of suspected heroin allegedly concealed inside 14 soap cases.

According to police sources, Jahirul Islam Barbhuiya managed to flee after learning about the police operation. His wife, Hamida Begum, was arrested on allegations of involvement in the case.

Police said the seized contraband could be worth several crores of rupees in the illegal drug market. However, the exact value will be determined during the course of the investigation.

A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and an investigation is underway. Police have also launched efforts to trace and apprehend Jahirul Islam Barbhuiya.
