Cachar Police Crack Down on Burmese Cigarette Smuggling, 2 From UP Held

Police in Cachar arrested a truck driver and his assistant after allegedly recovering around 600 packets of illegal Burmese cigarettes from a hidden compartment of a truck at Digorkhal.

The seizure was made during a routine checking operation at Digorkhal. Police searched the truck bearing registration number UP 22T 2661 and found several packages of cigarettes concealed inside a secret compartment.

The seized cigarettes are estimated to have a market value of several lakh rupees.

Police arrested the driver and assistant, identified as Rashid and Faizan, in connection with the alleged transportation of the illegal cigarettes. Both are reportedly residents of Uttar Pradesh.

The police have registered a case and launched an investigation to establish the source of the cigarettes and the circumstances surrounding their transportation.
