Congress Announces 39 Candidates for Silchar Civic Polls; Three Wards Kept on Hold

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced its candidate list for the upcoming Silchar Municipal Board elections, following the earlier release of nominees by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to an official circular issued by the party, APCC President Gaurav Gogoi has approved candidates across 39 wards out of a total of 42 wards. The names for Ward No. 20, Ward No. 21, and Ward No. 34 do not feature in the released list.

The circular, signed by APCC General Secretary (Organisation) Ramanna Baruah, directed all District Congress Committee office-bearers, Mandal committees, and party workers to extend their full cooperation to the announced candidates and coordinate campaign efforts.

The announcement comes right ahead of key statutory deadlines. Friday, 11 September, marks the final date for candidates to submit their nomination papers. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on 14 September, while the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is 17 September.

Voting for the municipality is scheduled to be held on 3 October.
