Katigorah: Scooty Rider Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run

A 25-year-old man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run accident at Lathimara on KS Road in Katigorah, Cachar, late at night (September 14).

The deceased has been identified as Firoz Uddin, a resident of Siddheshwar village. He was reportedly travelling by scooty from Chowrangi towards Rajatila when an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit his two-wheeler and fled the spot.

According to information available, passers-by found Firoz lying injured on the roadside along with his damaged scooty. He was taken to Katigorah for medical treatment, but the attending doctor declared him dead on arrival.

One of the people who helped after finding Firoz said, “While we were coming near the Kalibari after crossing Lathimara, we suddenly saw a man lying on the road with his scooty and the whole road was full of blood. Then we helped others to take him to Katigorah.”

Police reached the hospital after receiving information about the incident. The damaged scooty was also recovered from the accident site.

The exact circumstances leading to the accident are yet to be established. Police suspect that a speeding vehicle may have hit the scooty before leaving the spot. An investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify the vehicle involved.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Siddheshwar and the surrounding area.
