Premtala Spa Raid: Bajrang Dal Alleges Prostitution, SSP Says No Evidence Found So Far

An alleged prostitution racket at a spa parlour in Silchar’s Premtala area triggered tension on Sunday (September 20) after members of Bajrang Dal and other organisations entered the establishment, confronted its management and allegedly vandalised parts of the premises.

The establishment, identified as Roy Unisex Spa Parlour, was targeted following allegations that sexual services were being offered from rooms inside the spa. A woman found at the premises and a spa employee were taken to Silchar Sadar Police Station for questioning, while a man who was allegedly present reportedly fled from the spot.

However, Cachar SSP Partha Pratim Das said that no evidence of illegal activity had been found so far.

Speaking to the media, the SSP said the preliminary enquiry has begun and police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. He said CCTV footage is being checked and the employee and the woman found at the premises are being questioned.

The SSP said police were informed only after the members had conducted their raid at the spa. Since the raid was carried out without informing the police beforehand, he said legal action may also be taken regarding the manner in which the premises was entered and the raid was conducted.

The SSP said that if the preliminary enquiry establishes any cognisable offence, police will register a case suo motu. For now, however, he reiterated that there was no evidence of anything illegal at the premises.

The incident reportedly began after members of Bajrang Dal and other organisations claimed they had received information about alleged prostitution activities at the spa. One of the members told the media that the organisations visited the premises and claimed to have caught a man and a woman in an objectionable situation. According to the member, the man allegedly fled when the group arrived.

During the confrontation, the employee of the spa was seen asking those present not to record the proceedings. This reportedly further escalated the situation, with members and others gathered at the spot continuing to confront the management.

Parts of the spa were subsequently vandalised during the incident.

Another member questioned how such alleged activity could take place in a busy area of Silchar without coming to the attention of authorities. Those present repeatedly stated that illegal activities should not be allowed to operate in the city.

The spa employee, when questioned by the group, reportedly claimed that a room had been rented for Rs 1,000. He maintained that he was unaware of what the occupants would do inside the room.

The group also claimed to have recovered certain objectionable items from the premises. The nature and relevance of those items have not been established by the police.

Police from Silchar Sadar Police Station reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and took the woman and the spa employee for questioning.

Cachar SSP Partha Pratim Das said both sides are being heard by the police and the investigation is continuing. He also stressed that the police were informed only after the raid had already taken place.

The allegations of prostitution therefore remain unsubstantiated at this stage. Police are examining CCTV footage and questioning those connected with the premises to establish what actually happened.

If the enquiry establishes any cognisable offence, police have indicated that a case will be registered suo motu. At the same time, legal steps may be taken over the unauthorised raid, as the police were not informed beforehand.
