BJP Expels 12 Cachar Leaders, Workers Over Alleged Breach of Party Discipline Ahead of Silchar Civic Polls

The Assam Pradesh BJP has expelled 12 party leaders and workers from its primary membership over alleged violation of party discipline ahead of the Silchar Municipal Corporation election.

The decision was announced through an order issued on 26 September 2026 and signed by Assam BJP State General Secretary Anup Barman. The order states that the 12 party functionaries from Cachar district were expelled with immediate effect on the direction of state BJP president Dilip Saikia.

The order cites charges of violating party discipline and states that the action was taken in accordance with the BJP’s party constitution.

Debashish Roy, Ward No. 39

Shibar Deb, Ward No. 40

Anupama Das, Ward No. 10

According to the information provided, all 12 had sought to contest the Silchar Municipal Corporation election as independent candidates after not receiving BJP tickets for their respective wards.

The expulsion comes ahead of the civic polls and is expected to draw attention to the BJP’s disciplinary action against members contesting independently against candidates backed by the party.

Copies of the order were also sent to the Assam BJP state president, the party’s state in-charge, the organisational general secretary and the Cachar district BJP president.
