Silchar: Lift to Jail Road Ends in Alleged Drugging, Robbery and Stolen Scooty
A simple act of kindness allegedly turned into a nightmare for a Silchar man who offered a lift to an unknown youth and ended up losing his scooty, mobile phone and money. The man’s family says they learnt about the incident only the following day, while his condition later deteriorated, forcing them to rush him to hospital. Now recovering, the victim and his family are seeking help from the authorities to trace the stolen belongings and bring the accused to justice.
Dilwar Hussain Laskar, a resident of Madhurbond Gangpar in Silchar, was reportedly travelling towards Tarapur on his scooty on 18 October when an unidentified youth approached him in the Nazirpatty area and requested a lift to Jail Road. As they were heading in the same direction, Dilwar agreed to give him a lift.
After reaching Jail Road, the youth allegedly thanked Dilwar and offered to treat him chowmein. The two reportedly ate at a roadside shop, following which the youth gave Dilwar a bottle of cold drink. According to the complaint, Dilwar began feeling unwell shortly after consuming it and suspected that an intoxicating substance had been mixed into the drink.
Dilwar alleged that he was unable to speak or move his limbs despite being aware of what was happening around him. Taking advantage of his condition, the unidentified youth allegedly took his mobile phone, wallet, cash and scooty keys. The accused then reportedly took him to the Panchgram area and fled with the scooty and other belongings, leaving him behind.
According to Dilwar’s family, they had no knowledge of the incident on the day it occurred. They learnt about it only the following day, when Dilwar returned home and recounted what had allegedly happened. He reportedly told them that he did not know the youth and had only offered him a lift.
The family further stated that Dilwar’s condition deteriorated later that night, when he began speaking incoherently. Concerned about his health, they took him to Nightingale Hospital in Silchar, where he received medical attention and medication. He was discharged two days later.
The family has since confirmed that Dilwar is doing well. However, they remain concerned about the loss of his scooty, mobile phone and money and have appealed to the authorities for assistance in tracing the stolen belongings.
Dilwar has reportedly lodged a complaint at Silchar Sadar Police Station, seeking an investigation into the incident and action against the person responsible. The allegation that an intoxicating substance was mixed into the cold drink has not been independently verified, and the circumstances of the incident remain subject to investigation.
