All Set For Polling Tomorrow: Cachar Deploys 16,000 Personnel Across 1,732 Polling Stations
With voting for the State Legislative Assembly elections scheduled for April 9, the Cachar district administration has completed all preparations to ensure a peaceful and smooth polling process across all seven Assembly constituencies.
A total of 1,732 polling stations have been set up across the district, including nearly 400 women-managed booths staffed entirely by female personnel. Around 7,500 polling officials have been deployed, with an additional 1,500 kept in reserve. Security arrangements have been strengthened with the deployment of about 4,000 security personnel.
The total electorate in Cachar stands at 13,88,500, comprising 6,95,500 male voters and 6,92,000 female voters.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Ayush Gard, said, “We have 1,732 polling stations and around 9,000 civilian polling officials are being deployed, including reserve staff. Along with nearly 4,000 police personnel, around 13,000 officials are actively on duty, with additional buffer reserves taking the number close to 15,000.”
He added that two companies of CAPF have been deployed as striking forces, along with zonal and sector officers, taking the total deployment to nearly 16,000 personnel. “Around 400 polling stations are women-led, with all-female staff including presiding officers,” Gard said.
Highlighting logistical arrangements, he said polling materials were dispatched on April 8 itself. “For the first time, all polling parties are being dispatched in a single day due to security considerations. We aim to complete distribution of election materials by 2–3 PM, and ensure polling teams reach their designated stations by 6 PM,” he stated.
He further informed that additional security has been deployed in border areas, with CAPF forces stationed at 530 sensitive polling locations.
Cachar SSP Sanjib Kumar Saikia assured adequate security measures, stating, “We have sufficient forces to ensure security in the district. I urge all voters to come out in large numbers and cast their valuable vote without fear or intimidation.”
