Aman Singh stars as Barak Legends edge Nagaon Rangers in rain-hit thriller
Aman Singh produced a match-winning batting display as Barak Legends survived a spirited Nagaon Rangers chase to register a dramatic one-run victory in a rain-curtailed Assam Premier League clash at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday.
After being asked to bat first, Barak Legends posted 162/8 in 20 overs, riding on a commanding 124-run opening partnership between Aman Singh and Bishal Saha. Aman anchored the innings with a fluent 68 off 46 balls, striking three fours and four sixes, while Saha contributed 65 from 50 deliveries with five boundaries and three maximums. The duo had Barak Legends cruising at 105 without loss after 10 overs before Nagaon fought back through Akshay Kumar Deka (3/16) and Sunil Lachit (2/25) to restrict the total.
Nagaon Rangers began their chase aggressively but rain interrupted play at 20/2 after 3.2 overs. With the weather refusing to relent, the match was reduced to 17 overs under the V Jayadevan system (VJD), revising Nagaon’s target to 144 runs. That left the Rangers needing to score at a significantly higher rate for the remainder of the innings.
Captain Anurag Talukdar kept Nagaon’s hopes alive with a blistering 49 off 26 balls, while Ruhinandan Pegu added 38. However, Barak’s bowlers struck at crucial moments, with Mohit Thakur returning figures of 2/30 and Abdul Ajij Kuraishi dismissing the dangerous Sumit Kashyap just as the chase gathered momentum.
The contest went right down to the wire before Nagaon finished on 142/5 in 17 overs, leaving Barak Legends victorious by one run under the revised target.
The win was built on Aman Singh’s superb knock at the top, which gave Barak the cushion they needed before rain changed the complexion of the match and set up a tense finish.
