APCC Suspends Four Hailakandi Congress Leaders Over Protest Against Aminul Haque Laskar
The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has suspended four office bearers of the Hailakandi District Congress Committee (DCC) for their alleged involvement in the disruption that took place during a review meeting at the Hailakandi Congress office on 30 May.
In an order issued with immediate effect, the APCC suspended Jahan Uddin Barbhuiya, Sarim Sadiol, Mitujjaman Laskar and Najmul Hussain Barbhuiya, all of whom were serving as General Secretaries of the Hailakandi DCC.
The suspension order stated that the action was taken following their alleged involvement in the incident that occurred during the review meeting held at the Hailakandi DCC office on 30 May 2026.
The order was issued under the direction of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi and was signed by APCC General Secretary Ramanna Baruah.
The development comes days after a tense situation unfolded at the Hailakandi District Congress office during a post-election review meeting attended by Sonai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar.
During the meeting, a section of party workers raised slogans against Laskar and accused him of maintaining close ties with the BJP. The protest led to heated arguments inside the Congress office, with verbal confrontations and allegations exchanged between supporters and opponents of the MLA.
The situation remained tense for nearly half an hour before Laskar left the Congress Bhawan with the assistance of his security personnel.
Following the incident, Laskar had described the protest as a pre-planned move and alleged that certain party members were behind the demonstration. He had also said that he would submit a report on the matter to the state Congress leadership. Days later, the APCC suspended four Hailakandi District Congress Committee office bearers for their alleged involvement in the incident.
