Attempted Rape Inside Stationary Train At Lala Railway Station; Hailakandi Police Detains 2 Accused
A disturbing incident unfolded at Lala Railway Station in Hailakandi district on the night of June 19, when two youths allegedly attempted to rape a woman inside a stationary train coach. The accused, identified as Binod Baspar of Sefalika Sarani Road, Ward No. 1, and Pankaj Deb of Public School Road, both residents of Lala, were later detained by the police based on the woman’s complaint.
According to the FIR filed at Lala Police Station, the woman, a married resident of Vernerpur Tea Estate, had visited the station around 11 PM to book a Tatkal ticket for a journey to Karnataka. Her sister’s husband had accompanied her there. It was then, the FIR states, that the two accused allegedly began hurling obscene abuses at him and threatened to kill him before forcing her brother-in-law to leave the premises.
The woman further alleged that the accused were armed with sharp weapons and created a scene by shouting threats, frightening other bystanders who fled the area. As she attempted to escape the situation, one of the accused (Binod Baspar) reportedly grabbed her and forcefully dragged her into a parked train coach, where she alleges he raped her.
Following the incident, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint at the Lala Police Station. Lala Police confirmed that both accused are currently in custody and are being interrogated.
