Barak Legends Sign Rs 12 Lakh Marquee Star Sibsankar Roy in Assam Premier League Auction

Barak Legends assembled a balanced squad during the inaugural player auction of the Assam Premier League (APL) on Sunday (July 19), securing experienced all rounder Sibsankar Roy as their marquee signing for Rs 12.00 lakh, making him the third most expensive player of the auction.

The auction, held at the 91 Yards Club inside the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, marked a major milestone ahead of the first season of the Assam Premier League, which is scheduled to begin on August 1. The league has been launched by the Assam Cricket Association to provide a professional platform for domestic cricketers across the state.

Sibsankar Roy, a right handed all rounder with extensive experience in Assam’s domestic cricket circuit, emerged as Barak Legends’ biggest acquisition. He was the third highest priced player overall, behind Denish Das, who was bought by Barpeta Braves for Rs 12.80 lakh, and Sumit Ghadigaonkar, who joined Charaideo Sunrisers for Rs 12.20 lakh.

Barak Legends also made several notable signings to strengthen their squad across all departments. The franchise purchased right handed all rounder Abdul Ajij Kuraishi for Rs 8.40 lakh, right handed bowler Bhargab Pratim Lakhar for Rs 5.20 lakh, and left handed batter Barunjyoti Malakar for Rs 4.20 lakh.

The team further added wicket keeper Aman Singh for Rs 2.80 lakh, right handed all rounder Saurav Dey for Rs 2.60 lakh, left arm bowler Mohit Thakur for Rs 2.60 lakh, right arm bowler Harsh Kumar for Rs 2.20 lakh, and wicket keeper Shraban Khound for Rs 2.20 lakh.

Other additions include right handed batter Dipankar Paul for Rs 1.60 lakh, left handed batter Bishal Saha for Rs 1.50 lakh, left handed batter Subham Mandal for Rs 0.90 lakh, right arm medium fast bowler Jacky Ali for Rs 0.90 lakh, left arm bowler Rabi Chetry for Rs 0.75 lakh, right handed batter and right arm medium fast bowler Imran Ahmed for Rs 0.60 lakh, wicket keeper Yasir Ali for Rs 0.55 lakh, and right handed batters Abhishek Deb and Samik Das, who were both signed for Rs 0.50 lakh.

With a mix of experienced campaigners and promising domestic talent, Barak Legends have built a squad that aims to make a strong impression in the inaugural edition of the Assam Premier League, which will feature eight franchises from across the state.

Apart from Barak Legends, the other seven franchises in the inaugural Assam Premier League are Barpeta Braves, Charaideo Sunrisers, Jorhat Stallions, Tezpur Titans, Dibrugarh Warriors, Nagaon Rangers, and Guwahati Royals. The tournament is expected to provide greater exposure to Assam’s cricketers while strengthening the state’s domestic cricket structure.
