Barak Valley Rail Services Hit Again by Landslide, Restoration Work Ongoing Says CPRO NF Rail
Train services on the Lumding–Badarpur section have been suspended yet again after a large boulder that fell on the track between Dikhao and Mupa, near kilometre 61/1-2. This happened early on Sunday (July 6) due to another landslide in the same area. The same section was cleared off for boulders on July 3, after a similar landslide occurrence.
According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway, a large boulder has blocked the track, and workers have been attempting to remove it since morning. He said that the work is in progress and the route is expected to reopen by 11 AM.
“This is the same location where a landslide had taken place earlier. Once again, the track has been blocked. Efforts are going on, and train movement should resume by 11 AM.” CPRO said.
Landslides often disrupt the railway connectivity of Barak Valley, especially during the monsoon season. This has become a recurring challenge for the region, affecting both passengers and freight services. However, CPRO Kapinjal Kishore Sharma has assured that the affected path would be cleared by 11 AM.
When asked what would happen if the clearance takes longer, he reaffirmed his earlier statement, saying that regular updates will be provided, but for now, the track is expected to be cleared by 11 AM.
Railway authorities have assured that regular updates will be provided. Passengers are requested to stay in touch with official railway channels for the latest information.
