108 Positive in Cachar; Only 22 empty ICU beds in Silchar Medical College and Hospital
For the second consecutive day, Cachar has reported 108 Covid positive cases. The district health department informed that 73 samples have tested positive on RT-PCR and 35 on RAT.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that there are 37 patients undergoing treatment at the COVID ward of the Hospital. Dr. Gupta added that 12 patients are currently in ICU. “Seven patients have been placed under ventilator and five are on oxygen support,” Dr. Gupta informed.
It is worth mentioning here that SMCH is only admitting symptomatic patients. It is the only facility in Barak Valley with capabilities of treating symptomatic patients. SMCH has 40 beds in the COVID ICU and out of them 12 are already occupied leaving only 28 vacant ones. At this stage, according to the data shared by Cachar district administration, there are 525 active cases in the district.
In Karimganj district, 3,821 samples were collected and nine of them tested positive for COVID 19. On the other hand, 15 individuals were discharged in Karimganj dropping the number of active cases to 84.
On April 25, four individuals have tested positive in Hailakandi to take the district’s total active cases to 37.
Till 11:00 pm, April 25, there are 646 active cases in Barak Valley.
