12.5 ft. Long King Cobra Rescued by Team Trikal from Dholai in an Hour-Long Operation
A massive King Cobra measuring 12.5 feet was rescued from a populated area near the Ramprasadpur Oasis Hotel under Dholai police station jurisdiction. Around 1 PM today (December 27), a shop owner Brajen Singh spotted the enormous venomous snake on the veranda of his establishment. Startled by the sight, the snake quickly slithered inside the shop amidst the commotion caused by the owner and others.
Fearing for their safety, employees and others inside the shop rushed outside. The matter was immediately reported to the forest department’s Hawai Thang Range office in Dholai. Forest guards, led by Dilip Sinha, arrived promptly but could not capture the snake despite an hour-long effort. Subsequently, a rescue team from Silchar was summoned.
Around 4 PM, a team comprising rescuers Trikal Chakrabarty, Aboni Kumar Pegu, Manas Jyoti Pegu, and Sabir Ahmed Laskar reached the site. After nearly an hour of effort, they successfully brought the snake out of the shop. By 5:30 PM, the rescue operation concluded, and the King Cobra was safely secured in a bag.
Trikal Chakraborty said the length of the snake would approximately be 12.5 feet and 8 kilograms in weight. The writhing snake was difficult to be brought under control given its length and quick movements. Considering the fact that King Cobras are the largest venomous snakes, its bite delivers a tremendous amount of paralysis-inducing neurotoxins. The snake’s venom is so strong and so voluminous that it can kill an elephant in just a few hours. With extra caution, the snake had to be rescued amidst a crowd that had gathered.
The sudden appearance of the venomous King Cobra caused panic among the locals. However, the successful rescue by the team brought relief. According to the forest department, the snake was released into the Borail Wildlife Sanctuary.
