16% vote cast in Sonai; “BJP will form the Municipal board,” Dipayan Chakraborty; 17% in Lakhipur
Voters are lining up to cast their votes in their respective polling booths. In both Sonai and Lakhipur Municipality Board, the voting process kickstarted today morning and is running peacefully. As per the latest available information, 16% of the voters have cast their votes in Sonai while 17% of voters turnout has been reported in Lakhipur.
In Sonai, there are 10 seats and BJP candidate, Shaharul Alom Sheikh who is Silchar MP’s Sonai nominee, has won uncontested. A total of 33 candidates are contesting in Sonai for the board while 14,580 voters will cast their votes in 13 centres.
Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty has visited vote centres in Sonai; “Honourable chief minister of Assam has bestowed the trust in me to be in charge of Sonai. I have worked with the Karyakartas and I am sure that BJP will form the board in Sonai,” said Silchar MLA, Dipayan Chakraborty.
In Lakhipur Municipality Board, the polling is going on across 10 wards in booths. A total of 9,791 voters are listed to cast their votes. 28 candidates are contesting the election in Lakhipur.
Cachar SP Dr. Ramandeep Kaur went to both Sonai and Lakhipur to inspect the election situation. She said, “The vote process is going on smoothly. Adequate forces has been deployed to ensure law and order is maintained in the polling areas.”
