160 passengers of Silchar – Guwahati express are stranded at Ditokcherra; NF Rail planning to airlift them via Air Force
The Silchar Guwahati 15616 Express Train that departed for Guwahati from Silchar on May 14 was halted in Ditokcherra Station in Dimahasao because of the landslides and overflowing Railway Tracks in the North Cachar Hill area.
Almost 1600 boarders were there on that express who got restricted with the restriction of the train. A rescue train from Badarpur went to Ditokcherra and evacuated almost 1400 stranded passengers. The rescue train reached Damcherra Station with the 1400 passengers from where they reached their respective destination via road.
Almost 200 people had started walking towards New Harangajao Station. 40 passengers could reach New Harangajao, whereas the rest were not in a condition to walk. “We have got in touch with the Air Force, and we are planning to Airlift those 160 stranded passengers. Air Force officials and doing the recce for the landing spot and if found feasible, the stranded passengers will be air lifted from Ditokcherra to Silchar,” Public Relation Officer of NF Railway Sabyasachi De informed Barak Bulletin.
Entire Barak Valley along with states like Tripura, Mizoram, and Parts of Manipur got disconnected (Rail and Road communication) from the rest of India due to heavy rainfall in the area. Multiple instances of Landslides have been reported, and heavy downpour has damaged both road and railway tracks at different places.
