230 positive in Cachar, 68 in Hailakandi Karimganj 74; 48-year-old professor died at SMCH
The surge in the number of COVID-positive cases across Barak Valley continues. On May 6, 230 individuals have tested positive for COVID 19 in Cachar. Out of them, 96 samples were tested on Rapid Antigen Test Kit while 134 on RT-PCR.
Cachar district administration informed that since April 1, which is considered as the beginning of the second wave, 2108 individuals have tested positive on COVID19. 1309 individuals have recovered and in Cachar, there are 797 active cases.
Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that currently there are 142 active patients at the COVID block and out of them, 104 are in the ICU. 14 under ventilator and 49 on Oxygen support. Assistant Professor, of Women’s College Dr. Jayati Chakraborty, has breathed her last today at 6:15. She was 48-year-old and leaves behind her 10-year-old son and husband who himself has tested positive for COVID19 and was admitted to the Hospital.
In the Karimganj district, 74 individuals have tested positive for the virus. 638 samples were tested on May 6. Currently, there are 303 active patients in the district as 34 got discharged on Thursday.
In the Hailakandi district 68 individuals have tested positive for COVID19 recording the highest spike in the district. There are 248 active Covid cases in Hailakandi district.
