24,263 doses of vaccines, 23,083 RAT tests Cachar sets new records; positivity rate drops below 1%. 181 positive
Recently the Cachar District Administration had started a rural GP-wise vaccination drive in the district to cover all the rural Block PHCs under it. The GP-wise drive started on June 18 and is supposed to cover all the Gaon Panchayats (GP) under each rural Block PHCs to ensure that rural dwellers are not left behind in Covid vaccination. Meanwhile, along with the GP-wise drive, the state as a part of the nationwide vaccination drive, has opened it up for all eligible beneficiaries across age groups, On Monday, June 21, the vaccination drive organised by the Cachar district administration has set a new benchmark by successfully inoculating 24,263 people all over the district under the GP areas in a single day.
The district of Cachar has been under heavy scrutiny from the state government for the past few weeks in regards to the Covid situation. When Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had mentioned Cachar among the 10 districts of the state most likely to go under total lockdown in the coming few days, many people had already given up hope of returning to normalcy any time soon. But such an effective vaccination drive in the district, is sure to boost the morale of the people of the district as well as ensuring maximum protection against this deadly Covid-19 virus.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said, “Health team of Cachar is breaking all barriers in achieving the impossible. The credit truly goes to the foot workers who have been relentless in their sense of service. It also reflects our commitment to vaccinate as many citizens of Cachar as possible. I request the public to still be on guard, as until herd immunity builds in the community we are still vulnerable. Thanks to Cachar for the support as always.”
Assam Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Irrigation, Ashok Singhal who is also the guardian minister of Cachar, applauded the efforts of the Cachar district administration, National Health Mission (NHM), Cachar and all the Covid warriors of the district for successfully overseeing the mass vaccination drive in the district. He tweeted, “Relentless effort of team @dccachar, @nhmcachar & Covid warriors of Cachar District has shown excellent result. 19,955 vaccinated today against the daily target of 15,000 is remarkable. My best wishes and congratulations to the team.”
According to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent statement, a decision regarding the future lockdown fate of the Cachar district will be announced on Wednesday, along with 9 other districts of the state. If the Covid situation doesn’t improve until Wednesday, then stricter measures or full lockdown is very much a possibility for these 10 districts.
It is worth mentioning here that on Monday, 23,083 samples were tested on RAT and out of them, 156 have tested positive reporting a 0.67% positivity rate on RAT. On Monday, 181 individuals have tested positive in the district leaving 1,620 active cases.
