287 positive in Cachar, 1 dead; 108 in Karimganj, 76 in Hailakandi on January 12

Another huge spike in the number of Covid positive cases in the state including Cachar. According to the bulletin of National Health Mission, Assam, Cachar reported 287 positive cases on Wednesday. 28 samples have tested positive on RT-PCR while 259 samples on RAT kits. 108 samples have tested positive in Karimganj while a total of 76 samples were positive in Hailakandi on January 12.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that one patient has succumbed to death in the COVID wards of SMCH. Identified as 49-year-old resident of ward no. 22, Silchar, Jahura Begum was admitted to the hospital on January 11 and she breathed her last today at 3:30 pm.

Overall, there are 33 active patients in the COVID wards of the SMCH and two of them are on ventillator. Five patients are on oxygen support.

Since January 10, we have stopped doing our COVID story based on the data shared by the Cachar District Health Department. The data shared is spread across 24 hours starting from 12 noon. Since it is a data spread across two days, it leaves many loose ends.

However, for those who want to stay informed about the data shared by Cachar Health Department, according to it, the district has reported 214 cases out of which, 70 samples were tested on RT-PCR while 144 on RAT.

The district currently has 780 active cases and out of them, 100 are admitted to various hospitals and COVID Care Centres while remains 680 are in Home isolation.
