2nd plasma therapy in Silchar Medical College; Elderly man to receive plasma donated in Guwahati
Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh has informed that an elderly man who had a heart transplant a few years back will receive plasma at Silchar Medical College and Hospital. He said, “The Convalescent plasma therapy will be performed tonight. The donor plasma is being brought from Guwahati. ”
The elderly man will be the second person to receive plasma in SMCH. Deputy speaker of Assam, Aminul Haque Laskar was the first one.
Plasma donation is yet to begin in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. However, the administration has reached out and identified many potential donors. “We have received the apheresis machine at SMCH and hopefully by next week, it will be operational,” said Ghosh.
After the installation of the machine, the officials will undergo a training following which the donation will begin. Any symptomatic patient who has recovered from COVID19 can donate plasma after 28 days of recovery.
Meanwhile, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry Dr. Prosenjit Ghosh who is filling in for Dr. Bhaskar Gupta’s media duties informed about the heroics of two postgraduate students of Silchar Medical College who have tested positive for COVID19 and are now admitted to the COVID ward.
Ghosh informed that when the elderly man was feeling unwell and the doctors advised a CT scan, there wasn’t enough ward boy available to stretcher the man to the radiology department. “That is when two postgraduate students of our College Dr. Swapnalika and Dr. Arnab who are admitted in COVID ward stepped in and helped in shifting the patient from COVID ICU to radiology department and back,” said Ghosh.
