3 crore disciples mourn as Satsang conducts the funeral of Ashok Ranjan Chakravarty

The Acharya of Satsang Ashok Ranjan Chakravarty has breathed his last yesterday, on the 16th of December 2021. In a Satsang Bulletin, Rev. Anindyaduty Chakravarty, the Deputy Administrator of Satsang has announced the passing away of their father and the “Sree Sree Dada” as he was fondly and reverentially called. He was under treatment in the Durgapur Mission Hospital of West Bengal and his death was pronounced at 9:40 AM on Thursday. His last rites were solemnized last evening at the premise of South Durgapur Satsang Ashram in the presence of his family members and thousands of mourning disciples of Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra.

Born on 21st October 1933 in Hemayetpur of Pabna, in East Bengal (now Bangladesh), “Sri Dada” was the grandson of Thakur Anukul Chandra. He was a PhD in Political Science, LLB and even studied the medical sciences. In his lifetime he has composed over 300 songs and many poems. A great philanthropist who has contributed to the PM CARES Fund and PM Relief Fund on various occasions and has also helped various State governments during floods or disasters.

The shadow of mourning has descended upon over three crore disciples and followers due to his sudden demise. The PM of India also expressed his condolences, in a Tweet, he stated: “Acharyadev Ashok Ranjan Chakroborty of the Satsang Ashram, Deoghar, will always be remembered for his selfless service to society. He was passionate about education, healthcare, social justice and empowerment. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all his devotees. Om Shanti.”

He has also visited the Silchar Satsang Vihar as well on several occasions and his last visit was on 26th February 2015. Devotees from all over Assam came for his “darshan” as the Acharyadev is the living embodiment of Sri Sri Thakur.

His mortal remains were carried on from the Durgapur Mission Hospital to South Durgapur Satsang Vihar in a decorated procession and later paid the State Honor by the Police.
