3 juveniles arrested in connection with Saddik Ahmed-lynching set free; ‘Hard work pays off,” Samrat Dutta, Advocate
In 2015, a truck in Maynagar Tea Estate located in Borkhola, crushed an individual identified as Babul Sawtal. The locals blamed truck driver Saddik Ahmed’s rash driving from Babul Sawtal’s demise and immediately retaliated. Tension escalated in the tea estate and a mob of people burnt down the truck and lynched Saddik Ahmed to death. Both the deaths resulted in a massive communal clash between two communities. Police got in action and brought the situation under control and then filed a case against 30 people, including 3 juveniles.
Yesterday, after fighting the legal battle for more than four years, advocate Samrat Dutta won the case and the three juveniles were set free by the Juvenile court of Cachar.
Samrat Dutta argued from the beginning that the three juveniles identified as Sachin Karmakar, Jatan Chasa and Sajan Tantubai charged under sections 147/148/149/333/336/352/427/323/302/34 have been framed by the Police. He argued that they were falsely accused of playing a role in the murder of truck driver Saddik Ahmed. Yesterday, the court, after examining a total of 22 witnesses acquitted all three of them.
Dutta exclaimed with joy, “Hard work pays off.” He added on his Facebook post, “It is a massive success. After a prolonged legal battle, it feels great to see them free and their families smiling again.”
