5-month-old’s kidnapping and murder: One of the three arrested tests positive for COVID19

One of the most gruesome crimes of recent times, the kidnapping and murder of a 5-month-old has already left Barak Valley and entire Assam in a state of shock. Cachar Police has managed to arrest three in connection with the crime against the son of a Kajidahar, Sonai based businessman.

District Health department informed that one of the three accused has tested positive for COVID19. Today evening, the medical reports were handed over to the Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Bhanwar Lal Meena.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Meena said, “Yes it is true that one of them has tested positive for the virus. We will test the other two in Police custody again after two days though they have tested negative today.”

SP Meena added, “He will be treated in Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).”

To ensure that the accused does not run away from the COVID ward, Cachar Police will make special arrangements. “Armed men will be deployed to guard the COVID ward and keep it secured. Police has taken stock of the situation and adequate measures are at place,” added Meena.

At a residence in Sonai’s Kajidahar area, some miscreants entered breaking the window and ran away with the 5-month-old while he was asleep with his parents. Police managed to arrest the kidnapper on day one of the investigation but the damage was already done by then. The baby’s body was recovered yesterday from a jungle area.
